How often should I wash my hair!?
Do you know there's no magic number?
Well there's sort of one.
More often than not my salon time entails telling people how to take care of their hair.
Most of the time people are just following a logical conclusion. If something is "dirty" you wash it.
Does your car frequent a dirt road? Wash it?
Does the family dog like to roll in mud puddles? Wash it.
So it only makes sense when it comes to hair care, right?
Nope.
Most of the time your body, including your hair and scalp do a good job of keeping themselves clean.
More often than not people are washing too frequently. Stripping hair and scalp of vital oils that promote health. Which leads to the body over producing and making the original problem worse.
So what is the magic number? Usually unless doing heavy physical activity that produces sweat. I say 1-3 times a week. Now this is all dependent on your lifestyle, hair type etc…
I know that number(s) sounds small and maybe it doesn't feel possible but I always encourage my clients to try it.
Many have heard me call it "hell week"
I say they can curse my name all that week because your scalp and hair is "resetting"
I promise you'll see the benefits.
Once your scalp resets try cutting back washing to only 1-3 times a week.
Dry shampoo can be a great resource for you during this time.
Also try switching up your pillowcase and keeping your hands out of your hair.
The oils from out hands can transfer to our hair/ face and contribute to the problem.
Heres hoping all this helps!
